registration now open!! The Sherwood Extended Day Program is excited to announce “Beyond the Bell” – a new drop-in program for families who don’t need regular child care. "Beyond the Bell" will allow families to use the ESC program at Sherwood on an as-needed basis, providing Sherwood students with affordable enrichment activities that don’t require a long-term commitment. day to day activities at escOur typical daily schedule looks like this:3:15 - Check-in at ESC in the cafeteria and grab a snack!3:30 - Recess (location weather-dependent)4:00 - Activity Block (includes a movement activity, hands-on activity, homework lab (when applicable), board games and building materials)5:15 - Independent Activity Time (Homework, Reading, Drawing, Board Games) Students are gathered around the craft table at ESC making a valentines day craft. Students are enjoying the sunshine on a special sledding afternoon activity. SNACK Students will be offered an allergy-friendly snack when they check-in at ESC at 3:15 each day. Please refrain from sending your student(s) with food from home. RECESS Students will go outside for recess (weather-permitting) to either the blacktop or the field. Basketball and Four Square are popular recess activities with our students! In inclement weather, students will have access to the gym for some free-play time. MOVEMENT ACTIVITY Every day will have some sort of physical activity offered, ranging from organized gym games (i.e. dodgeball, kickball, soccer) to facilitated small group activities (i.e. ping pong, running/walking on the track, fitness activities). HANDS ON ACTIVITY These activities will range from arts and crafts to STEM activities to the occasional special cooking project. Examples of activities:Sewing ProjectsAcrylic and Watercolor PaintingDIY Slime and Sensory BottlesDiamond PaintingFuse BeadsJewelry Making BOARD GAMES + BUILDING MATERIALS We have a collection of board games for students to access, as well as different building materials (i.e. Legos, Magnatiles, Magnet Blocks, Brain Flakes) that will be rotated out on a daily basis. HOMEWORK TIME Students are able to work independently on their homework from 4:00-6:00 daily. SPECIAL EVENTS + EARLY RELEASE DAYSThese are the biggest hit of the year at Sherwood ESC!Special Events: These happen on regular school days in the afternoon from 3:15-6:00, and are made up of a range of activities from pizza parties or cooking projects, to seasonal parties or special movie viewings.Early Release Days: Take advantage of ESC on half-days... we are open all afternoon! From 12:15-6:00, students will be delighted to find a cafeteria transformed for the special theme of the day. Lunch will be served (pizza, chips, fruit, drink), and there will be exciting themed activities, decorations, and even an extra special snack!
